Eating a Healthy Diet For Acne Prone Skin
Don't eat that - you're face will pop out with zits! We've all heard it from friends, parents, or even your doctor. But the facts are, even after many studies, scientists have not found a clear connection between diet and acne. Not chocolate; not pizza; not even french fries. According to the American Academy of Dermatology they say that greasy and sugary foods do not cause acne. A similiar study by the AMA agreed that diet plays no role in acne treatment for most people.
Of course, that doesn't mean you should go out and start eating foods high in sugar or fat! The skin is your body's largest organ, so what's good for the rest of your body will be good for your skin, too. There are plenty of nutrients found in normal everyday foods that promote a healthy body - and therefore a healthy skin. Get wise to these now and you'll increase your chances of beating your acne.
Vitamin E is a very powerful antioxidant and helps protect your body's cells against damaging free radicals, which are by-products of the body's metabolism. Zinc has been known to give a boost to the immune system, improving your overall health and of course your skin. Stress has long been known to aggravate a case of acne, and is known that Vitamin B-2 is many times helpful in lowering stress levels. Vitamin B-3 improves circulation, promoting healthy skin. It also helps lower your cholesterol level and helps you metabolize protein, sugar & fat and increasing your energy level.
Since acne is different for every person, there may be certain foods that cause break outs for your skin. Obviously these foods should be avoided at all costs. You may also want to check your vitamins for iodine content. Normal amounts of iodine should not affect your skin, but amounts greater than the RDA of 150 mcg may aggravate your acne. In general, use common sense! Drink lots of water and eat a healthy, balanced diet - but don't be afraid to sneak a snack or indulge your cravings every once in a while.
